Like Paintball on Red Bull -- Saturday morning finds you stepping out of your car onto some lonely woodlot on the edge of town. Somewhere nearby, kids are just getting up to watch cartoons. It's still a little chilly so you stuff one hand into your camo pants-pockets while the other hand hangs onto your warm coffee like it's the ripcord of a parachute. With your shoulders hunched, you shuffle up to the couple of guys in camo that got there first. You mutter your hellos and all of you turn to face the road simultaneously like a choreographed dance move. You're all wondering the same thing: how many players will show up this morning?

How It Pays to Play... -- You're a committed paintballer. You've invested a lot of time in becoming a half-decent player. You've spent a lot of money gearing up to a respectable level. You've read a lot to learn the ins and outs of the sport. But, none of that matters when you walk onto a new field. Nobody knows you or your skills. For all they know, you're another newbie who's gone out and bought a marker.

If you've ever tried it then you know: playing paintball full-auto kicks butt. With full-auto, a relatively inexpensive paintball gun can match the fastest tourney guns on the market. But, the world of full-auto paintball is complicated. If you buy yourself a paintball machine gun, you may be disappointed to find that your local field won't allow it. And, yet, there are many full-auto options that most fields DO accept.

Paintball Hand Grenades -- I was head-to-head against one of the best paintball players I'd ever gone up against and he had the better position. From behind his bunker, he could rain paint down on me anytime I so much as poked a finger out of the brush.

Special Ops A-5A2: The Self-Aiming Paintgun -- Nineteen years ago, I bought my first paintball marker. It was a Gramps and Grizzly Marauder Turbo. With a a self-important name like that, you would expect the gun to be the peak of modern technology. I suppose, for those days, it was.
