A tribute to a Brother at Arms
by By Doug "Montydoom" Montgomery on Dec 06, 2008
There comes a time as people we need to stop, forget about the everyday grind, and look at the nation’s flag so it can remind us of our freedoms we take for granted each and every day. Thanks to all the Americans that died because of what they believed in. Thanks to all of the men and women who are not doing this because we want to, but because our brother or sister is right next to them everyday and every night watching over one another. Sleeping on the ground while we sleep in a warm bed, eating a cold meal or MRE (Meal Ready to Eat) while we eat out with friends, hugging a weapon to save their life while we hug our love ones to feel good about our life. This is why we need to thank them. Thank them every time you see them coming home.
This year Team Forest Fire from Washington State held services on March 22, 2008 for Dustin Canham. He died while serving his country. Dustin was not only a United States Marine, he was husband and great friend to many in the paintball world and SPPL. Thanks to Dustin and Team Forest Fire, many annual food drives and fund raisers were held for the people in the community at their home field. But his reach went beyond his home field. Many Pacific Northwest players and many SPPL players have played with or against Dustin several times each year at a number of different events over the last two years. It’s how I got to know him, respect him and be able to call him a friend and brother at arms.
