Special Ops Woods Pack—Pacman rejoices!
by Ian "Lo" Ebersole on Feb 25, 2009

I’ve gotten to the point where when Brian “MOATI” Russell tells me something new is coming out of the soft goods department at SpecOps, I start giggling uncontrollably. Even as a fairly dedicated Pacman (Check out http://media.specialopspaintball.com/videovault/sabndagvests.php for that reference), I’ve got a deep appreciation for the amount of thought and design work that goes into the SpecOps soft goods lineup, and I’ve become a walking and talking poster child for their Fusion pants and Dagger vests. So when MOATI mentioned a new podpack coming out designed specifically for woodsball players, I knew I had to try it out.

When the Woods Pack arrived, I wasn’t disappointed. As usual, SpecOps created the Woods Pack with a high degree of modularity, featuring two MOLLE segments, one on either side of the integrated pod holders. These allow you to attach more pod holders, to expand the capacity from four pods to five or six, grenade pouches, radio holders, an air tank, or anything else you can find that attaches using MOLLE. Whatever your preferences, the Woods Pack can meet them. It comes with a very secure belt system with elastic snuggers for a tight fit, and will fit players of all shapes and sizes. Once you’ve secured the pack, the rubberized surface inside keeps the pack from shifting around, making the pack part of you.

Beyond the modular design, the Woods Pack sees a few other design tweaks that set it apart from your typical paintball podpack. Realizing that woodsball players want to be able to put their pods back in their pack, the Woodspack ditched the elastic straps and “+1” pod holders common on speedball packs in favor of fully enclosed holders. Also, the Woods Pack holds your pods (compatible with Qloader pods, standard 140 round pods, and everything in between) slightly lower than most packs, which allows you to snug the belt around your waist and then reach your pods more comfortably when crawling or crouched. And since it’s availiable in Omnipat, SpecOps Digi, and black, there are options to match whatever other gear you use in the woods.

So, fellow Pacmen of the paintball world, rejoice!
